Key Findings on Drone Losses
The Washington Post revealed the figures on Thursday, citing three unnamed US officials. A fourth official told the newspaper that not every lost drone was shot down, explaining that some crashed after losing communications with their operators.
The MQ-9 Reaper is a medium-altitude long-endurance drone capable of flying up to 30 hours while conducting surveillance or launching strikes with Hellfire missiles. Each aircraft costs between $30 and $50 million. Before the US-Israeli war on Iran began, the US military possessed approximately 185 Reapers, with 165 operated by the Air Force and 20 by the Marine Corps.
