Escalating Threats and Failed Diplomacy
Asked about the Omani-Iranian negotiations, Trump told Fox News that "if Oman gets in the way, we'll bomb the sh*t out of them." He also claimed the Islamic Republic was "very badly defeated" and said he would soon "be declaring the Strait of Hormuz a territory of the US."
A memorandum of understanding signed by the US and Iran in June set a 60-day window to end the conflict and reopen the strait. That memorandum expired without a deal on Monday, with both sides now threatening escalation.
Washington has rejected any agreement involving Iranian toll collection and has signaled it will not lift its blockade on Iranian ports unless Tehran relinquishes that demand.
