Firefighting Efforts Across Affected Regions
In France's Gironde region and the mountainous Var department, massive fires scorched tens of thousands of hectares before conditions began to stabilise. Officials have confirmed that the country's largest wildfire since 1949 is now under control, though firefighters caution it remains active and not fully extinguished.
In central Spain, blazes that consumed tens of thousands of hectares near Madrid have eased significantly, enabling authorities to lift evacuation orders and allow residents to return home. However, firefighting crews are still working to contain flare-ups and newly identified hotspots in the provinces of Leon and Caceres.
