Agenda Priorities at the Damascus Talks
The Syrian Presidency stated that discussions focused on enhancing coordination, particularly in the economic field, along with issues of common interest contributing to regional stability. Barzani said in a statement on X that the two leaders discussed "the importance of Syria's role in enhancing peace, security and stability in the region."
Border security featured prominently, with both sides addressing efforts to prevent narcotics and weapons smuggling between Syria and Iraq and strategies to counter Iranian-backed militias operating near the shared border, including areas adjacent to the Kurdish region in northern Iraq.
Barzani's itinerary also includes meetings with Kurdish officials inside Syria, including SDF commanders and Kurdish members of the Syrian parliament, according to Kurdish media reports.
