Immediate Fallout and Government Response
The prime minister ordered the National Security Council to hold an emergency session in the wake of the airstrikes. The PMU described the assault as a "joint US-Saudi terrorist attack" and confirmed that special committees are conducting field assessments, with the casualty count expected to rise as rescue operations continue.
Iraqi lawmakers across multiple political blocs swiftly condemned the strikes. Parliament member Saud al-Saadi of the Huqooq Movement called on the commander-in-chief of the armed forces to order a military response, while lawmakers Faleh al-Khazali and Hussein Nima al-Battat urged the government to cancel the prime minister's Riyadh visit and pursue diplomatic, legal and military measures to defend national sovereignty.
